2026.10.1.02 — Balanced author assignment for new articles

All release notes

2026-10-01 · Creator Newsdesk automated article producer

This update adds even author assignment across newly attempted source articles using two configured existing author accounts. An article keeps its assignment during retries, and existing bylines are preserved.

What changed

  • Replace an unavailable author reference with alternating reservations between two configured existing author accounts when new source articles are attempted.
  • Persist each article's author reservation so retries keep the same assignment, including across restarts. Concurrent selection shares the reservation state.
  • Preserve existing article bylines and the existing editorial, source and release-readiness checks.

Verification

  • All 15 focused automated tests passed: 12 author-assignment checks cover even reservation counts, persistent retries, concurrent selection, legacy single-author compatibility, invalid configuration and corrupt state; three integration checks exercise the producer's actual create payload and confirm existing-post updates retain their bylines.
  • Python syntax and change-validation checks passed for the prepared release.
  • After installation, the deployed file hashes matched the prepared release, the module imported successfully, and an isolated runtime check confirmed alternating assignments and stable retries. The configured WordPress author accounts and their publishing capabilities were validated before and during deployment.
  • Deployment did not create or update existing articles or start a live generation request. Fresh article publication has not yet been verified.

Rollout

Deployed on October 1, 2026; fresh article publication verification pending. Installed files, configuration and isolated author-assignment behavior were verified. These notes were published before distribution and updated after the deployment checks. This does not establish that the full publishing pipeline has recovered.

Updating

  • The automated article producer is updated through the managed deployment process. Preserve article state and stored author assignments during an update or rollback.
  • This producer change does not require a WordPress publishing-plugin version change or rewrite existing article bylines.
  • The configured author accounts must remain available and eligible for the existing publishing workflow.

Scope and limitations

  • Assignment is balanced across newly attempted source articles, not successful publication totals. Published counts may differ while a failed article waits for a retry.
  • The change applies only when this producer creates a new article. It does not rebalance historical articles or change posts created through other workflows.
  • The disabled legacy policy-tip generator is outside this news-article author rotation.
  • A saved author reservation does not repair the existing uncertainty after an HTTP create request times out or returns an ambiguous result; it is not a new duplicate-prevention guarantee.
  • Author assignment does not replace editorial approval, source checks or existing publication requirements.
  • External content, image and audio providers have separate availability limits. This release does not repair those providers or establish that every publishing stage or social delivery is working.
