2026.10.1.04 — Startup presence check for attached storage

All release notes

2026-10-01 · Creator Publishing Hub managed macOS worker support

This update limits storage recovery to startup detection of the configured external device, allowing a powered peripheral hub time to become available during boot.

What changed

  • At startup, start a 15-minute countdown when the expected external device is absent.
  • Once the expected device is detected, stop checking it for the remainder of that boot.
  • Request an orderly restart if the expected device is still absent when the startup window expires. The next boot begins a fresh startup window.
  • Replace continuing storage-health monitoring with this startup-only presence check. Device detection does not require application data or user-home health checks.
  • Fix a previous timer defect that could prevent elapsed time from advancing correctly across separate background-service runs. The countdown now uses a system clock shared by those runs.

Verification

  • 43 focused automated tests passed, including cancellation on detection, an unmounted device counting as present, no rearming after later disconnection, a fresh allowance on a new boot, final absence checks, and preserving state before restart.
  • An isolated two-process test on the actual worker verified the countdown decreasing from 900 to 899 seconds using the shared system clock. The probe was simulated, reboot calls were disabled, and all temporary state was removed.
  • The installed artifact hashes match the reviewed sources. The live startup service exited successfully, detected the configured device, and marked its check complete with monitoring disabled for the remainder of the current boot.
  • The previous service and state were backed up. The earlier state record and the separate network helper remained unchanged.
  • An actual missing-device boot, hub power interruption, or automatic restart has not been physically exercised.

Rollout

Installed and verified on the configured managed worker. The current boot detected its device and completed the startup check with no restart pending. A real missing-device boot and physical hub power sequence remain untested.

Updating

  • The managed worker administrator updates the existing storage startup service. Website owners do not need to update WordPress or change publishing settings.
  • Back up the preceding service and configuration before updating. Rollback restores the preceding version and its recorded configuration.
  • This release changes the storage check. The separately installed private-network startup helper retains its existing version and behavior.

Scope and limitations

  • Detection confirms only that the expected device is present. It does not prove that the filesystem is mounted, writable, healthy, or ready for an application.
  • After detection, later disconnection or storage failure during the same boot does not trigger this startup service.
  • Each boot receives its own startup window. If the required device remains absent, successive boots may each reach the restart threshold.
  • The service cannot repair a peripheral hub, power supply, cable, drive, or filesystem. Publishing and audio-generation readiness still require separate verification.
